Okay, so maybe you've been eating energy/protein/health bars and drinking meal replacement shakes for a while now, but with little to no results. Or maybe you've just now grown tired of the bulge, the lack of strength, the sugar-withdrawal, and the mid-day energy crash.
You've decided to cut out the junk and get yourself some kind of health bar, or a meal replacement shake. Only it isn't so easy --
where do you start? What do you look for? What kind of bar or shake is right for you?
Here is the knowledge you need to arm yourself with before you wade into the swamp of bars and shakes that flood the market.
1. A lot of people assume that because a bar or shake sits on the shelf in the "healthy" aisle, the products themselves must be healthy; but that couldn't be further from the truth. Remember, these companies are all competing for your dollar, and many of them will do it by wrapping a high-fat, high-sugar, high-calorie candy bar in a healthy disguise. Don't take their word for it -- always check the nutritional information on the back of the label!
Knowing what to look for on the label is very important. It's really very simple when you understand these principles:

Limit sugar to no more than 6 or 7 grams per serving or meal. Because it turns to fat, raises your blood sugar levels, spikes your energy briefly and then causes fatigue.
3. Carbohydrates turn to sugar, which turns into fat. Do not consume bars or shakes that are high in net carbs unless you plan to exercise immediately afterward, because if you don't use the carbohydrates quickly, they turn into sugar, and then fat.
4. Limit your daily calorie intake to no more than 200 calories for protein bars—Remember it is still calories in, calories out. Although we know how great our products taste, you must also remember to eat well-balanced meals in addition to our products!
5. Trans Fats are the enemy! They lower good cholesterol, raise bad cholesterol, cause cancer and cannot be processed out of the body.

Protein is what your body needs to feed your muscles. Look for products with at least 20 grams of bio-available protein per serving which is protein the body can use.
