Case Study #3
Diabetic Case Study 1 - Report of Continuous Glucose Sensor
Patient: T.R.
Run Date: 06/27/00 to 06/29/00
DM Type and Duration: Type 1
Control History: Brittle Type 1
Hgb-A1c: 6.4%
DM Therapy: Insulin Pump
Indications for CGMS:
Brittle Type 1 with frequent episodes of hypoglycemia. Evaluate control now that patient is on insulin pump. Evaluate effect of PermaLean bar on night-time hypoglycemia.
Comments:
Patients control on insulin pump is less brittle than before pump. Range of blood glucoses are mostly 80-190. No significant hypoglycemia while using low-carbohydrate nutrition bar (PermaLean). Post-prandial lunch and dinner blood glucoses somewhat prolonged.
Recommendations:
Overall insulin pump control seems less brittle and improved compared to multiple shots. Patient might benefit from adding 1-2u to her bolus meal coverage. (PermaLean) Low carbohydrate nutrition bar at bedtime may help reduce chance of significant nighttime hypoglycemia.
Sensor Assessment:
Sensor average over 146 hours Sensor range 60 to 260
